How to make bedtime stories not count
A daily time limit is easy to live with until the last ten minutes of it go on a bedtime story that was meant to be free. With Yoto Limiter you can mark a card as exempt: it never uses up the daily limit, and it is never paused for being over it.
What you need
A Yoto Limiter account with your player connected, and Plus, which includes card rules. See plans and prices. On the free plan every card counts toward the daily limit.
Mark a card as exempt
- Open the app, choose the player and go to Settings.
- In Cards, find the card. A card is listed once it has been played, with the title Yoto gives it.
- Set its rule to exempt, and save.
An exempt card is never counted and never blocked by the daily limit, so it can play after the rest of the day's time is gone.
The other card rules
- Counts (the default): time on the card uses up the daily limit.
- Exempt: never counted or blocked by the daily limit.
- Its own daily limit: for example 20 minutes of a favourite series, kept apart from the rest of the day. When it is used up that card is paused, and other cards can still play.
You can also give a card a name of your choosing, when the title from Yoto isn't helpful. Naming a card is available on the free plan too.
Allowed hours still apply
Exempt only skips the daily limit. If you have set allowed hours for a bedtime, an exempt card is still paused outside them. To let a story play after the hours end, widen the hours. See how to stop a Yoto player at bedtime.
Good to know
- Card rules are applied when the day is read, so changing a card's rule changes how all of today's time on it is counted, not just what is played afterwards.
- It only works while the player is switched on and online, because Yoto Limiter follows it through Yoto's cloud.
